Just a few weeks ago Alex, a customer on the Restart Scheme anxiously wandered through the doors of our Farnborough office and had his first meeting with experienced employment adviser, David.
It was clear that Alex was nervous about the whole experience, so a reassuring David helped him understand how we could support Alex to move towards a better future. During the meeting, Alex expressed his desire to return to work after being unemployed for 15 months but advised that his confidence was low and that he needed help with interviews.
As his CV reflected a strong background in general warehouse work, David spent the next couple of days contacting employers in the local area who were in need of candidates. Around 25 calls later, David found an ideal role at Kebar Gardens, a leading supplier of paving and garden landscaping materials that perfectly suited Alex’s experience and skillset. Kebar Gardens were impressed with his CV and invited him for an interview the next day.
After hearing the news, Alex began to worry about how he might perform in his first job interview in a long time. So, that same day David conducted two mock interviews to prepare him and gave him some tips and techniques to control his nerves. The day after his interview, David received a call from a very cheerful Alex informing him that he had secured the job and was due to start work the next day.
Alex has been in his new role as yard operative for just over a week now and is pleased to have joined Fedcap and the Restart Scheme. He said: "I was made to feel very welcome and comfortable during my first meeting. I am thankful that the interview prep could be carried out that same day."
We look forward to helping many others move back into sustainable work.
