MP opens new office helping jobseekers find work in High Wycombe

Wycombe MP Steve Baker has officially opened a new office helping the town’s jobseekers bounce back from the coronavirus pandemic to find work.

Mr Baker was joined by local employers, partners and jobseekers as he cut the ribbon to open our new office on Crendon Street.

We're delivering the UK Government’s flagship Restart Scheme, which gives people who have been out of work for nine months or longer tailored support to find suitable, sustainable employment.

The refurbished office will provide a space for jobseekers to get the support they need to pick up skills, qualifications and knowhow to get back on the payroll.

During the visit, Mr Baker and other dignitaries were given an insight into how we are delivering the Restart Scheme. Our frontline team are on hand to help with everything from updating CVs to tackling health concerns, and from impressing at interviews to launching new start-up businesses.

The 12-strong team are already working with some of the region’s leading employers, including Thames Water, Travelodge and Compass Group. And since we began delivering the scheme last year, we have supported more than 1,300 people across the South Central area of England to successfully find new jobs.

Steve Baker MP said: “I am delighted the people of Wycombe will have extra support to find local jobs. The motto of High Wycombe is Industria ditat – industry enriches. Work not only enriches people through paid employment but enriches their lives in so many other ways.”

Brian Bell, Chief Executive at Fedcap Employment, said: “The coronavirus pandemic is first and foremost a health crisis, but for so many individuals and families it has also presented challenges around work and the pressures that not having a job brings. We’re here to give people the time, space and support they need to find suitable work and relieve some of those pressures.

“Our High Wycombe team is now placing an average of one person per day into employment, but we’re not about quick fixes or revolving doors, we want to make a lasting difference to people’s lives. This starts with getting to know our customers better and understanding how we can start to break down those barriers to employment and build up people’s confidence and self-belief.”
